Abstract
In the article “the Vietnam syndrome” in public consciousness of the USA since 1973 up to the present is investigated. Some stages in its development are allocated: 1974–1981; 1981–1989; 1989– 1993; 1990-s; 2000-s. At each of these stages the American public opinion got a unique configuration on problems of the use of military force of the USA abroad.
