- The article discusses the dynamics of public perception of science and prominent features of thescientist image in the Soviet cinema in the period 1928–1986. The author examines the extent to whichthe system of values ascribed to the basic values of “the ethos of science” as advanced by R. Mertoncreated opportunities for professional and cultural autonomy of scientists.
