- This paper explains path dependency in Russian history by focusing on the model of power prevailing in this country, namely on the stability of the core characteristics of this model, referred to asSupreme power, over time. Observed variability can be attributed to the context in which a particularhistorian assesses power (including his or her ‘doings’, to use Q. Skinner’s term) and to changes in therepertoire of techniques for imposing will.
