Abstract

A collection of folklore put together by Fyodor Abramov in his  homeland, the  Pinezhsky District of the  Arkhangelsk Region, in the  summer of 1939, is stored at the  Manuscript Department of the  IRLI. It contains an autobiographical account of one of а woman who conducted traditional wedding ceremonies. In 1981, the writer used this record in a literary text based on the patterns inherent in folklore. The images of the  main characters of the  story emerge from Abramov’s observations of the  real prototypes, and  are shaped by the  writer’s fine work with the  lively oral  heritage of the  Pinegans, enriched by the  other sources from the  treasury of the  peasant culture.
